Consultation Fees
MML does not bill third party payers for our services, but we do assess fees to private parties for personalized healthcare navigation. As mentioned earlier, healthcare navigation was pioneered by MML. The fragmentation of care observed by professionals of all disciplines at multiple levels of the health system led MML to act. The product we offer is new to the marketplace and health insurers are not fully aware of the clinical benefit and financial savings that quality healthcare navigation can deliver.
MML operates independently and charges fees for different phases of our program. We assess a fee for the initial face-to-face consultation with a medical liaison (Discovery Engagement). For those clients seeking a partnership with MML, we assess an additional fee for the subsequent comprehensive Intake Interview. These preliminary fees are based on the logistical costs incurred to engage with the client.
Retainer
The challenges presented in the case are used to calculate the professional retainer fee for chartered navigation services. Three different factors are assessed to determine the retainer fee: A complexity rating is assigned to each case after determining the level of resources required to assemble a quality navigation chart. The client must choose either a light, moderate, or aggressive level of professional guidance. The third factor influencing the retainer is the actual length of service contract. The product of the complexity rating, the intervention strength, and the contract length, produces a value called the Q Score. The Q Score is subsequently used for billing calculations.
“ The Q Score is a product of the complexity rating and the service length relationship. ”
We engage in a formal agreement to leverage the client.
Initial service agreements for health navigation services range between 6 and 36 months. Clients may request an extension of the MML partnership beyond the initial contract term, if additional benefit from the relationship can be justified by the client and medical liaison. Memberships that provide long-term access to basic and advanced MML services are possible and will be discussed with the client toward the end of the contractual service agreement.
